The percentage of "seriously underwater" mortgages rose in the first quarter. That's according to ATTOM, which notes the South has seen a bigger jump in seriously underwater mortgages. Though the percentage of seriously underwater mortgaged homes rose slightly nationwide, it remains lower than pre-pandemic levels. ATTOM said the South and Midwest regions account for nine out of the 10 states with the highest share of seriously underwater mortgages. Meanwhile, among 107 metropolitan areas with over 500,000 people, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, topped the list with 13.4% of all mortgages seriously underwater.

CNN —The US Food and Drug Administration is warning that dangerous counterfeit versions of Botox have been identified in multiple states, putting the safety of consumers at risk. The incidents of counterfeit Botox being administered to consumers appear to be connected to products that have been purchased from unlicensed sources and then administered by either unlicensed or licensed providers. The counterfeit Botox products may be identified by the lot number C3709C3 found on the outer carton and vial, the FDA said. Counterfeit botox has been found in several states. Most often, when counterfeit Botox is sold, “the injector knows they’re purchasing something counterfeit,” Sung said.

CNN —Gen Z is having a harder time than previous generations did at their age, according to new research. It is one of a series of four surveys about Gen Z, said survey author Zach Hrynowski, a senior researcher at Gallup. Gen Z people who are 18- to 26-years-old are less likely to rate their lives positively than older generations when they were in that age range, Hrynowski said, noting this analysis didn’t do a direct comparison but used previous surveys to assess happiness levels of Gen Z and its predecessors. Two factors were heavily correlated with Gen Z happiness: how much time they got for weekend sleep and relaxation, and even more important was their sense of purpose, he said. Gen Z puts a lot of effort into skin care and mental health, but bad sleep means looking tired and feeling badly, Salas said.

Most people don't earn six figures, but it's become the new benchmark for whether or not you can afford a typical U.S. home. Americans need to earn an annual income of $110,871 to buy a median-priced home of $402,343 — a 46% increase since January 2020, according to a new Bankrate analysis of Redfin sales data. For context, households currently earn a median income of $74,580, according to the most recent U.S. Census Bureau data available. As a result, the number of places where you need to earn $100,000 or more to afford a median-priced home has climbed from seven to 23 since January 2020. In Montana, the income needed to buy a median-priced home increased 77% since 2020 — the largest jump of all states.

Shares of U.S. health insurers fell Tuesday after the Biden administration didn't boost payments for private Medicare plans as much as the insurance industry and investors had hoped. Shares of CVS Health fell more than 8% on Tuesday, while UnitedHealth Group 's stock slid nearly 7%. Shares of Elevance Health dropped more than 3% and Centene 's stock fell 6%. Meanwhile, Humana 's stock fell more than 10%. The health-care giant is far more dependent on those private Medicare plans, known as Medicare Advantage, than its rivals.

“What we learned doing this project is that a lot of people are not represented in breast cancer media. Although the incidence rate of breast cancer is 4% lower among Black women than White women, Black women are 41% more likely to die from the disease, according to the American Cancer Society. Breast cancer is less common among Asian women than in other ethnic or racial groups, but the disease is the most commonly diagnosed cancer. Eshaana Sheth was 27 when she was diagnosed with hormone receptor positive breast cancer in 2019. Breast cancer is hormone receptor positive when cancer cells have receptors — which the National Cancer Institute describes as binding proteins within the cell — that attach to progesterone or estrogen.

In a stunning turn, a Democrat handily won an Alabama race in a blowout Tuesday night after campaigning almost entirely on reproductive rights. Marilyn Lands, a licensed mental health counselor, emerged from the special election for a state legislative seat with 62% of the vote, compared with 37% for Republican Teddy Powell.
